1. “What must be remembered is that inculturation should be focused on integrating our traditional Filipino values with our Catholic faith. I quote a statement of Pope Benedict XVI given in November of 2011, He speaks of proper inculturation as ” the correct integration of the authentic values of cultures into the Christian faith. It liberates from occultism and vanquishes evil spirits, for it is moved by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Take note of the second sentence; he is warning us that improper inculturation or syncretism will lead to occultism and the entry of fallen angels into society which we are seeing now in our country. It is therefore important that before we inculturate a certain tradition of our culture, we first try to discover its origins if it was born out of pagan dealings with the preternatural world.” (pg. 161-162)
2. “What is sad is that in our country, at least from my own experience, the New Age is gaining ground through some misguided elements among the clergy, religious, and lay leaders. As the Vatican document states, “it must unfortunately be admitted that there are too many cases where Catholic centers of spirituality are actively involved in diffusing New Age religiosity in the Church.”
For example,when I was a seminarian, we were required to attend a seminar on the Enneagram. The Vatican document discusses the Enneagram, ‘ which is the nine-type tool for character analysis, which when used as a means of spiritual growth introduces an ambiguity in the doctrine and life of the Christian faith.” I have encountered within the Church the use of energy or pranic healing instead of prayers for supernatural healing. A number of workshops on prayer, especially those coming from the United States, are not centered on Catholic prayer traditions but on Eastern “mystical’ traditions.’ (pg. 163-164)
