Quiboloy endorses Duterte, likens him to David the giant slayer
DAVAO – Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ the Name Above Every Name has decided to endorse Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for president in the May 9, 2016 elections.
Duterte was present during a thanksgiving and worship gathering by the religious group on Sunday night at the compound of Jose Maria College in Davao City.
During the gathering, Quiboloy likened Duterte to David who slayed the giant warrior Goliath.
”It was in my heart for many, many months already. It was being formed and Lord God was showing the analogy of leadership that when God considers a man, he always considers what is in the heart of a man,” Quiboloy said.
”Sinasabi ng Diyos sa akin to keep on supporting him (Duterte).”
Duterte was thankful for the endorsement by Quiboloy, who heads a group which the latter said could deliver a ”united vote.”
”I’m happy. Ano yan eh, in using the parlance of elections, it is a command vote. I don’t expect a 100 percent turnout, but just the same, but if you believe in Pastor [Quiboloy], medyo maganda ang development na iyan,” Duterte told reporters.
Quiboloy endorsed Gilbert Teodoro in 2010, but the latter lost to then Senator Benigno Aquino III.
In the interview, Quiboloy defended his endorsement of Teodoro, saying he knew the latter would lose in the polls.
”I knew Gibo would lose because he was number four. I was not for winning, I was for my principles. At that time, I knew Gibo would become the best president we will ever have in that period. But I stuck with my decision,” he said.
“For me, God let me choose Gibo so I endorsed him to the nation, but because this is democratic country, people had to be the one to choose, whether you believe my pronunciation is of God or not.”
The Kingdom of Jesus Christ the Name Above Every Name claims to have 6 million members, around half of whom are registered voters.
Quiboloy said members of the religious group are not being coerced to vote for his anointed one.
”We call it united voting… Ang kaiba sa amin, the people are not coerced. But we fucntion as a body. Kung ano ang decision ng ulo, [the people] follow it with their whole heart,” he said.
