JESUS THE LIGHT

Jonathan Loquez
Is “lucifer” the name of the devil?

.
.
First of all, “lucifer” is NOT a proper name. It is a LATIN word for “morning star” or “day star”. It is NOT the name of the devil.
.
A very typical example of this is found in 2Peter 1:19 of Latin Vulgate. The verse reads:
.
et habemus firmiorem propheticum sermonem cui bene facitis adtendentes quasi lucernae lucenti in caliginoso loco donec dies inlucescat et ‪#‎lucifer‬ oriatur in cordibus vestris(2Peter 1:19, LATIN VULGATE, emphasis mine)
.
As I’ve said, “lucifer” is a LATIN word for “morning star” or “day star”. It’s NOT a proper name.
.
Parallel verses of different English translations of 2Peter 1:19 are as follows:
.
New International Version:
We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the ‪#‎morning_star‬ rises in your hearts.
.
New Living Translation:
.
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place–until the Day dawns, and Christ the #Morning_Star shines in your hearts.
.
English Standard Version:
.
And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the #morning_star rises in your hearts,
.
Berean Study Bible:
.
We also have the message of the prophets, which has been confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to this message, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the #morning_star rises in your hearts.
.
Berean Literal Bible:
.
And we have the more certain prophetic word, to which you do well taking heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until this day shall have dawned and the #morning_star shall have arisen in your hearts,
.
New American Standard Bible:
.
So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the #morning_star arises in your hearts.
.
King James Bible:
.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the ‪#‎day_star‬ arise in your hearts:
.
Holman Christian Standard Bible:
.
So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dismal place, until the day dawns and the #morning_star rises in your hearts.
.
International Standard Version:
.
Therefore we regard the message of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp that is shining in a gloomy place, until the day dawns and the #morning_star rises in your hearts.
.
NET Bible:
.
Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing. You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the #morning_star rises in your hearts.
.
GOD’S WORD® Translation:
.
So we regard the words of the prophets as confirmed beyond all doubt. You’re doing well by paying attention to their words. Continue to pay attention as you would to a light that shines in a dark place as you wait for day to come and the #morning_star to rise in your hearts.
.

.

.
.
The term “lucifer”(Latin for morning star or day star) described in 2Peter 1:19 refers to our Lord Jesus Christ NOT the devil. Christ is the TRUE “lucifer”(Latin for “morning star” or “day star”)[ cf. REV. 22:16]
