Thanks for enlightening me about ADD interpretation of this passage. John 1:18 is a reecho of the opening verse in John 1:1-2 wherein the Word is introduced alongside the Father as existing before time and as the source of all creation and who himself is God. Thus there is no subordination here but an absolute equality as to the divine nature. We notice that the evangelist no longer uses the term Word to refer to the second person after verse 14 but he introduced him as the Son of God who in the beginning was at the bosom of the Father since from henceforth the Word is to be identified with the person of Jesus who is the only-begotten Son of God. The expression “abides in the bosom of the Father” does not imply subordination but origin. As the term “Word” implies origin from the “Thinker” as a “Thought” the term “Son” also implies origin as from the “Father.” However in using the term “Son” the evangelist develops an added insight in that the Word which comes from God (the Father) is not an inanimate being or force but another person which subsists alongside the first person.
