He said and I quote:
“God in His deepest mystery is not a solitude but a FAMILY because God has in Himself Fatherhood, Sonship and the essence of the family which is love, the interpersonal love which is the Holy Spirit”. The catechism repeats it; God is One but not solitary. God’s oneness is a union of communion and not a solitary individual.
So what this got to do with the same sex marriage? The issue of same sex marriage cannot be fully understood in a few isolated proof texts in the Bible unless we look at it in the light of who God is from all eternity.
Take a look on the creation for example. God said let there be light… let there be that… let there be this and everything come into existence out of nothing, but notice the change of word when God created the final product of His creation, “let us make man in our image after our likeness” and He made them male and female and what else He do? He blesses them and said “be fruitful and multiply”.
The shift of word implies that God made us not to just populate like dogs and cat and horses, reproduce perpetual species; Animals are merely biological that is why nothing is said about their gender. When God makes man in His image after His likeness and blesses them is a union of Marital Covenant. And the Marital Covenant is the promordial form of the image of God.
How it works?
When a man and a woman become one flesh in the sacrament of marriage and bring forth new life, they also become three in one. God made man male and female to create an image, a created likeness in a human family of who God is from all eternity. God is a FAMILY so He creates us so that human sexuality is a mystery that God designed to make us more like Him, because there is nothing I can do with my body that will make me more Godlike than in performing my own role as a husband with an openness to life and becoming a Father.
Marital love is therefore a reflection of the Blessed Trinity, God Himself. Sexual relations outside of this context violate the marital covenant and are deeply offensive to God. This includes any sexual act outside of marriage (hetero, homo, bi). This is also why it is sinful to prevent the conception of children. God has revealed that you can never separate life from love.
Note: Marriage originates from God and is a Sacrament, therefore it is holy.
