Denied medical help, Angel Manalo’s driver suffers cardiac arrest and dies
The driver of Felix Nathaniel “Angel” Manalo has died after being allegedly denied of medical assistance by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) hierarchy, lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles bared on Tuesday night.
Cruz said that Benjamin “Jonjon” Arellano Jr., a father of three, suffered cardiac arrest on Monday evening.
“He suddenly collapsed last night and, despite best efforts, could not be revived. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” said Cruz, who is the publisher of Politiko.
Arellano formerly worked for Angel, son of the INC founder Felix Manalo. Angel is the brother of current Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo.
An internal strife led to the expulsion of Angel and others from the influential religious sect last July. Now, this discord has practically led to the death of one of their own.
“Mr. Jonjon Arellano had been feeling ill lately and was to be seen by a physician three weeks ago when all visitors were suddenly disallowed in the residence of Ms. Lottie Manalo-Hemedez,” said Cruz.
Cruz reportedly brought two doctors with her to the Tandang Sora residence, but to no avail.
Cruz is the legal counsel of expelled INC ministers who have complained of illegal detention against the group’s Sanggunian or Council of Elders. (Samantha A. Giron)
