Walk, Rosaries on offer in Vision fundraising for the Pope

By Hilary Bainemigisha

TWENTY THREE people have already paid to book Holy Rosaries that Vision Group is selling to raise money for the redevelopment of Namugongo. The crusade was announced by the Chief Executive Officer, Robert Kabushenga, to spread the opportunity of contributing to this noble cause to all Ugandans.

Kabushenga was appointed by the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga to the Finance and Construction committee of Pope Francis’ visit in November.

The archbishop, who is also the chairman of the finance committee, entrusted to Vision Group the responsibility of raising funds for the redevelopment of the Uganda Martyrs shrine into a modern pilgrimage centre.

“The public response is very good and encouraging,” he said. “We have September to raise sh10 billion for the church to give our Pope a great welcome and a new Namugongo to visit.”

Rosaries

The company is spearheading a drive in which 10,000 special edition rosaries from the Vatican, with a special emblem of Pope Francis and blessed by him will be arriving in the country soon. Of the 20 early birds, 17 are from Kampala.

“We shall sell each rosary at sh100,000 to anybody who wants to participate in this noble cause. Because this is a national campaign, we are appealing to the 35 million people in Uganda. For these, 10,000 rosaries are very few. That is why we are encouraging people to book by paying through Vision Group outlets. You will be given a receipt by which you can claim your rosary when they arrive.”

Walk to Namugongo

Vision Group is also organising a walk to Namugongo from Kololo on October 31. Participants are required to pay sh10,000 to walk.

“It will be a multi denomination walk,” Joseph Lwanga, the Vision Group circulation manager, said. “We shall gather at Kololo airstrip, those who will come in vehicles will leave then safelt guarded at Kololo because public transport will be organised to bring the walkers back to Kololo.”

All payment will be through New Vision offices in Kampala, Arua, Mbarara, Lira and Soroti. Selected agents at Vision outlets will also receive the money and receipt it. You can also pay through the bank and the account number will be communicated soon. Arrangements to pay by Mobile Money are being worked on with MTN and Airtel.

Name of people who will buy the rosary or/and walk will be recorded for display after the campaign is concluded.
